The world of engineering is ever-changing. Concepts are continuously being developed, new inventions are invented, and tools increase in complexity. The engineering community has seen an influx in the number of software tools that have been created lately, but they still can't keep up with the changes being made in this field. This presents a problem for engineers who are not well educated on how to effectively use these tools. One such software tool is Uberoid v9.1 2 1. 5 5.zip, an artificial intelligence (AI) program that allows engineers to design mechanical systems with unparalleled accuracy. Uberoid is designed to be user-friendly and easy to learn, yet capable of assisting the engineer in many areas, such as sizing a machine's components, calculating a structural equation for a truss' bending moment diagram, analyzing a problem through a virtual 3D model, and more. Uberoid was originally created by associate professors at the University of Michigan Shared Resource Center for Engineering Education and Research (CERR) as part of their engineering education labs called LabView Plus Plus engineering toolkit. The goal of Uberoid is to make engineering education more enjoyable and easier for students to learn. This has proven to be very successful, as the toolkit has been used in many schools around the world. The creation of Uberoid can be attributed to Professor James Collins who decided that there was a need for an AI program to increase student understanding in engineering design. Uberoid is an artificial intelligence software program used by engineers when they need help solving problems. By using this software, the engineer has the option of "asking" questions pertaining to different areas of design and having them answered by Uberoid in a thorough yet easy-to-understand way. Uberoid uses a natural language processing system to understand the questions asked by the engineer and utilizes a logical reasoning system to understand and solve the problems presented. Uberoid has many different modules to assist in solving problems, such as the components sizing module. This module is used in designing mechanical systems, such as a car chassis, where the dimensions of each component must add up in order for there to be enough room for all components. In addition, Uberoid's structural equation solver is used in analyzing a truss' bending moment diagram when there is no input from an engineer required. This will be discussed later in greater detail when this paper discusses how Uberoid works. Using Uberoid is very easy. The engineer can specify which area of engineering they want to use (e.g. mechanical, electrical, chemical) and what type of problem they want to solve (e.g. sizing a machine's components, calculating a structural equation for a truss' bending moment diagram). Then the engineer must type out the question on the screen, followed by pressing enter on their keyboard. The engineer must have computer knowledge in order to effectively use Uberoid because this software is not designed for people unfamiliar with software programming languages or computer systems in general.
